Activities

Form a group of 3 students.

Let 2 people hold on to a length of string and separate a certain distance.

Let the 1st person hold the string on top of their head and stand straight.

Let the 2nd person hold the string with their foot so that a right angle triangle is formed.

Let the 3rd person measure the distance between the 2 people, as well as the angle that the string is inclined above the ground, using a large protractor.

Each group are to calculate the height of 1st person who is holding the string on top of their head using trigonometry and see how different is it from his/her known height.

What would be the reason for any difference (if there is) between the actual height and calculated height?
